Amissville Community Christmas

The Project: Shot, edited and scored our first official news-oriented documentary short, a five-minute video for the Rappahannock County-based Foothills Forum on one of Rappahannock’s longest-running, all-hands-on-deck volunteer traditions: the Amissville Christmas holiday gift basket project.

The Client: Foothills Forum, Washington, Va.

Details: Worked with Foothills Forum director Bud Meyer and reporter Randy Rieland (Randy wrote the three-part series associated with the video, a look at nonprofits and volunteerism, which ran in the Rappahannock News). During a week in late December 2018, Luke and I shot the three main "events" of the annual project: shopping, sorting (at which more than 75 volunteers showed up to first sort and then assemble the donated food into boxes), and delivery day. (More than 100 families in need received food, fruit baskets and/or flowers). Weaved footage together with two main on-camera interviews of Jan Makela and Frank Fishback of the Amissville Community Foundation, which coordinates the annual event with the help of six Amissville churches, Amissville Volunteer Fire & Rescue and the local 4-H.
