Best In Show? Yes.

A Synergist Media video on the return of the Amissville fire department's annual carnival and parade won a VPA Best In Show award.

This month, two of our videos and several photos and photo essays by Luke Christopher garnered honors from the Virginia Press Association for the weekly Rappahannock News, where Luke is contributing photographer (and works on assignment for the nonprofit news organization Foothills Forum).

Luke received Best In Show in the photography category for his images of the Ennis family in the wake of losing their home in a devastating fire. “I felt like I was at the scene experiencing this family's emotions,” a VPA judge wrote. Luke also won a first-place award for his photo of a child delighting in a foam bath during Rappahannock's annual July 4 celebration.

Christopher, video editor Roger Piantadosi, reporters Bob Hurley and Julia Shanahan, and drone pilot Robert Stevens won a Best In Show in the digital category for a story, photos and video of the Amissville fire department's annual carnival and parade. The VPA also recognized, with a First Place award, the video “When Smaller is Better: 8-Man Football Turned Out to be a Winner” by Luke and Roger, with Foothills Forum contributors Randy Rieland, Ben Peters, Andy Alexander and Bud Meyer.
